The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) located in Portland, Oregon, has a complete program of camps and classes for youth. For example, registration is currently underway for Spring and Summer 2010 Camps and Classes.From Lego Robotics and Astronomy to Canoeing, Camping, and Coastal Ecology there may well be something to strike your interest.

There is a Chess Club for Teens, and one is waiting for you to join. Beginning, intermediate, and advanced players are welcome. Bring your own chess set, or use one available to you at the library. Meetings are Saturdays, 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the North Portland Library and 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Midland Library. The Vancouver Community Library also has beginning chess for those aged 7 to 19 years of age 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays. It is possible just to drop by and have fun. Please call the designated library ahead of time to make sure that the club will be meeting on any day you wish to attend.

What about getting involved in your local government? Localities like getting youth involved in commissions and advisory boards. For example, check out the Clark County Youth Commission if you want to give your own perspective to county commissioners, departments, and community organizations. If you live in Portland, Oregon, then you may want to get involved with the Multnomah Youth Commission and give a proper youth voice to your local government, and to change policy affecting, well, you!
